Obituary

Mr. Thomas D. Daly, a longtime resident of Tappan, NY, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2007 with his family at his side. He was born on February 21, 1915 in Manhattan to Michael and Margaret Carroll Daly. Thomas was raised at St. Agnes Convent in Sparkill, NY and graduated from of Tappan Zee High School in Piermont, NY in 1932. During WW II, he served in the US Navy as a naval aviation radioman-gunner and was awarded several decorations, including the Air Medal for combat operation against the Japanese Imperial Fleet,Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Japan. Thomas served aboard the USS Wasp which was an aircraft carrier. He was a port director for Standard Oil in Caracas, Venezuela for 14 years and afterwards he was the Director of Motor Vehicles for the County of Rockland for many years. Thomas was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan and was a longtime generous benefactor of St. Thomas Aquinas College. He was a charter member of the St. Thomas Aquinas College President's Council. In 1972, he co-founded the St. Thomas Aquinas College Golf Tournament and was one of the first recipients of the Spartan Award from the St. Thomas Aquinas College Alumni Hall of Fame. Thomas was also a longtime generous benefactor of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Frances, who died on February 24, 2005. Thomas is survived by his sister-in-law Betty Sedlack and her husband Thomas, sister-in-law Anne diFrancesca and her husband Americo, and sister-in-law June Daly; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sisters Mary Hollis and Margaret Mauceri and by his brother Michael Daly. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, 10 am, at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan, with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.
