LEVESQUE, THERESE A., PH.D. Therese A. Levesque, Ph.D., died on August 28, 2005 after a prolonged illness. She was born on May 8, 1917 in West Warwick, RI to J. Wilfred Levesque and Mathilda Smith Levesque. A longtime resident of Nyack, NY, she was predeceased by her brother Lucien of Coventry, RI and sister Vivian Hebert of Charlottesville, VA. She is survived by her sister Blandine Levesque of the Grey Nuns of Montreal, Montreal, Canada; Claire Smith of North Charleston, SC, brother Raymond of Mamaroneck, NY, Henriette Allen, Ph.D. of Clinton, MS, Cecelia Mruk of Larchmont, NY and Cecilia Allen of Alpharetta, GA and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Therese graduated Magna Cum Laude from River College in 1935 with a BA degree, major in French and minor in Latin. She was awarded with her Master of Arts Degree in Latin from Fordham University in 1948 and her Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Supervision and Curriculum from Fordham University in 1961. She began her teaching career in RI and continued in NY. At her retirement, she was the Assistant Superintendent in the South Orangetown School District in Blauvelt, NY. Therese enlisted in the US Marine Corps Women's Reserve in February of 1943. She received basic training at Hunter College, New York City and graduated from Aerology/Meterology School, US Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, NJ. She was accepted for O.C.S. and won her Gold Bar. She retired from the Marine Corps in 1947 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She also collaborated with her sister, Henriette Allen, in the writing of school textbooks. She was a Fullbright Exchange Teacher in Montpelier, France from 1953-1954. A communicant of St. Ann's Church in Nyack, NY, she was active in many church activities but her main involvement was with the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Student, educator, administrator, author and patriot, she was an inspiration to her siblings and students. We have lost a fine, generous and thoughtful sister and friend. Visiting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2005, from 4 to 7 pm at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 10 am at St. Ann's Church, 16 Jefferson St. in Nyack. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
