Mr. Dennis P. McHugh of Sparkill, NY died heroically with fellow firefighters, saving thousands of lives at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Dennis was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was 34 years old. Dennis was born to Michael and Olivia McHugh in the Bronx on February 11, 1967. The family moved to Blauvelt in 1973. Dennis graduated Tappan Zee in 1985 and Iona College in 1989. He joined the NYC Fire Department three and a half years ago, leaving the financial industry to pursue his dream of helping others. Dennis married Una Hinchcliffe on July 30th, 1994 at the College of New Rochelle. His devotion to Una and their children, Chloe (5), Joseph and Sophia (10 months) will live on forever. He was an active member of the Rockland County Gaelic Athletic Association. Dennis is survived by his wife, Una; children Chloe, Joseph and Sophia; parents Michael and Olivia; brother and sister-in-law Thomas (NYFD) and Leigh, brothers Michael and Brendan; parents-in-law Walter and Marion; brother-in-law and wife Brian and Carol; brothers and sister-in-laws Mary Beth, John, Robert and Ian; godson and nephew Max; niece and nephew Clara and Patrick; also many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Dennis made everyone he met, friends and strangers, feel special. Every friend felt like they were his best friend. He touched the lives of so many in his short time with us. His love and devotion will never be forgotten. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, 11am at St. John The Baptist Church, 895 Piermont Avenue, Piermont, NY. Visiting hours will be Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the McHugh children at P.O. Box 302, Sparkill, NY 10976.
