Laura Welborn Oswald departed this life January 31, 2001, at her home in Upper Nyack. She was 41. Born in Manhattan to Hugh and Ann Welborn, she graduated from Tappan Zee High School, Dominican College and earned a master‘s degree in social work (MSW) with honors from Fordham University. Affiliated with various agencies in the area, her work ethic and compassion brightened the lives of troubled children and adolescents. And illumined her own. Survivors include her beloved daughter Mia, husband Stephen Oswald, her parents, brothers Mark of Amherst, MA and David of Piermont; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for Laura on Saturday, February 3, between 4 and 6 PM at the Nyack Community Center, two blocks south of Main on Broadway. The family requests that donations be made to Camp Venture—where as a youngster Laura first learned what caring for the most vulnerable among us meant—and to the Nyack Center. We invite friends and acquaintances to this remembrance of Laura‘s life and of the ways she touched the lives of others.
